THREE-PHASE ASYNCHRONOUS MOTORS PRODUCED BY CELMA INDUKTA SA (CANTONI GROUP) EQUIPPED WITH ELECTROMAGNETIC BRAKES

Nowadays increasingly popular are the complete solutions of electric drives consisting of an electric motor equipped with a number of additional components such as a frequency converter, encoder, industrial gear unit or electromagnetic brake. A particular interest in the domestic and foreign industry is observed in this last area - in the field of motors equipped with electromagnetic brakes designed to definite applications.

It is worth mentioning that, according to Commission Regulation (EU) 640/2009 and 4/2014, motors equipped with electromagnetic brakes are at this point excluded from the minimum efficiency requirements (efficiency levels IE1, IE2, IE3). However to meet the expectations of our Customers, we decided to expand our offer of motors equipped with electromagnetic brakes with variants in efficiency class IE2, IE3 and for selected frame sizes also IE4.

Spectrum of our brake motors executions is very wide starting from a simple solutions for hoist applications (safety brakes), through drives for stage movement in theatres (“silent” brakes), large-scale circular saws (“soft” brakes) and ending with conveyor systems for power units in coal power plants (brakes with a high protection degree for dusty zones).

Example of a motor rated for S2-30min duty (without external cooling fan) equipped with dual electromagnetic brake in theater execution (with low noise level)

A typical brake motor design (motor equipped with an electromagnetic brake) includes:

  • brake installed on the non-drive (ND) side under the fan cover;
  • brake connected to the main terminal box of motor – in case of DC brakes there is additionally installed also AC/DC rectifier which can be supplied directly from the motor terminals or from an external (separate) supply source;
  • optional brake lever for manual releasing of brake (releasing of brake during servicing or in emergency situations without supply voltage);
  • fan installed behind the brake to ensure proper cooling conditions for the motor in continuous operation (S1).

Example of a motor rated for S1 continuous duty with a “soft” electromagnetic brake (with smooth breaking function).

This solution is used among others in drives of woodworking machines.

          Since 1954 EMA-ELFA has continued to produce a wide range of electrical equipment, while developing it in line with current trends and available technology.                      Offered AC and DC brakes are used to stop the rotation of the motor shaft or machine after the supply voltage has been switched off

The HZg series three-phase AC brakes provide a braking torque from 20 to 400 Nm in five frame sizes.

A wide range of DC brakes with a braking torque up to 5000Nm in different executions and configurations in terms of supply and safety allows to use them in multi-purpose drives.
An example is the 2H2SP...BT series of brakes for use in buildings (areas), where on the one hand it’s necessary to comply with strict safety requirements and on the other hand noise level is limited, such as theaters, concert halls etc.

Research and development activities allowed the production of NEX-series electromagnetic brakes that meet the essential requirements for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres of gases and dusts (zones 2 and 21 of Directive 2014/34/EU ATEX) as confirmed by the ATEX certificate issued by Notified Body. Further development of this series resulted in fully flame-proof brakes HEX series for mining and chemical industry.

Offer of EMA-ELFA also includes electrohydraulic releases, a mechanical devices with linear movement which are used in most cases for releasing (opening) of expansion and disc brakes in drives of transportation machines, lifts, conveyors, elevators, etc.
Releases type ZE with three-phase supply voltage up to 500V are produced in wide range of mechanical sizes with rated force 120 ÷ 3200N and the stroke from 50 to 160mm.
A wide range of different executions includes ZE-Cm and ZE-Ci types equipped with external mechanical switches or induction sensors as well as the ZE-Lv type for horizontal operation.

ExZE electrohydraulic releases meets the essential requirements for equipment and protective systems intended for use in methane-endangered areas and potentially explosive atmospheres of gases and dusts (Directive 2014/34/EU ATEX). They are certified by a Notified Body and offered with three-phase supply voltage up to 1000V, rated force 800 ÷ 3200N and stroke from 60 to 160mm.

Development of the mentioned above electrohydraulic releases (ExZE series) allowed for the production of ExwZE explosion-proof releases with higher supply voltages (1000 ÷ 1250V).

Thanks to constant and direct cooperation between R&D Departments of CELMA INDUKTA SA and EMA-ELFA, we are able to offer, produce, test and subsequently deliver to our Customers proven solutions designed to specific applications in a relatively short time.
